The arrival of these 50s cookie cutters definitely required a baking session, and I knew just the book to head for:

This book was my Mama’s when she was little and has been used constantly by our family since, hence the tatty spine!

It’s full of brilliant recipes, my favourites being the Croque Monsieur and Knickerbocker Glory:

Whilst they are gay and exciting, today was the day for zoo biscuits.

This is a super easy peasy recipe with 4oz each of butter and sugar creamed together, add one beaten egg and 8oz of flour, et voila! It suggests an egg yolk paint (1 egg yolk + 1/4 teaspoon of water + food colouring) which is rather wonderful, but today I wanted icing.

Iced and sprinkled. We’re going to take them to the circus (more on that later)!

In other news, greengages are in season so get to a greengrocer!
