A trip to Giffords Circus

I went to my first Giffords Circus some years ago, and was instantly enchanted. For two weeks a year, the common five minutes from my house becomes home to a selection of beautiful caravans, a big top and one of the best shows of the summer.

This show has everything: a man with his bottom on fire, a ninja-like sword throwing Napoleon, scantily clad dancing ladies, majestic horses and a goose.

The magic of this circus is that it transports you, this year into the world of Tolstoy’s War and Peace (a particular attraction of the show given my literature lovin’). It’s not often that a man on a horse, a lot of people shouting around you and an orchestra of pure brass can actually make your spine tingle (and that’s a sentence I never thought I’d say!).

Giffords will make you want to run away with the circus – it’s not just their gypsy beats or inimitable skills, but their unbelievable ability to make it feel like they’re putting on a circus just for you.

‘A land of pure magic’…
